Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery in Zurich
Plastic surgery combines medical precision with a clear aesthetic approach – always with the aim of harmoniously improving proportions and making results look natural. At the Swiss Derma Clinic, we advise you individually, transparently and on the basis of your anatomy, your wishes and your everyday situation.
Our spectrum includes breast augmentation, breast lift, eyebrow lift, eyelid lift and liposuction for targeted body shaping. Whether more fullness, firmer contours or a more alert look: The decisive factors are an honest indication, safe surgical execution and planning that suits you.
Plastic surgery in Zurich: consultation, procedure, aftercare
Surgery is a decision that needs a run-up. Between the first thought and the day of the operation lie consultation, reflection, assessment and planning – and each of these steps has a purpose. We take that time deliberately, because satisfying results almost always rest on realistic expectations rather than on a quickly issued appointment.
The path to surgery
The first consultation answers three questions: what specifically bothers you, what is anatomically feasible, and whether surgery is the right route at all. It includes examination, a discussion of the technique and its alternatives, and open information about risks, scar position and healing time. You receive a written cost estimate and then sufficient time to consider. Before the procedure come the pre-operative work-up and, where necessary, assessment by the anaesthetic team.
Our surgical spectrum
- Breast: breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, implant exchange and nipple correction.
- Body contour: liposuction for targeted shaping, and the treatment of lipoedema.
- Face: eyelid surgery, brow lift, rhinoplasty and otoplasty.
- For men: gynaecomastia and further topics under men’s health.
- Minor procedures: outpatient surgery under local anaesthetic, for example for conspicuous skin lesions.
Anaesthesia and the day of surgery
Smaller procedures are performed as day surgery under local anaesthetic, larger ones under general anaesthesia or sedation. Which applies depends on the procedure, your medical history and your medication, and is decided at the anaesthetic consultation. For the day itself: arrive fasting, wear comfortable clothing, no jewellery, no contact lenses – and arrange for someone to take you home if anaesthesia was involved.
Healing and aftercare
Aftercare is not an appendix to the procedure, it is part of the result. Swelling and bruising are a normal part of healing and settle over several weeks; after breast and body procedures you will usually wear compression for several weeks. Depending on the operation, the final result appears only after three to twelve months, as tissue settles and scars mature. Follow-up appointments cover suture removal, wound assessment and guidance on scar care.
When the non-surgical route is the better one
Not every concern requires an operation. Where there is mild laxity, early loss of contour, or a wish for subtle change, Sofwave, a thread lift, fillers or a non-surgical nose correction often achieve a fitting result – without anaesthesia and without downtime. It should be said just as plainly that where there is significant excess skin, no non-invasive procedure delivers the tightening that surgery does. We state that limit clearly in the consultation.
Costs and insurance cover
Purely aesthetic procedures are paid privately. Where a medical indication exists – symptoms caused by very large breasts, pronounced gynaecomastia, lipoedema, or visual field restriction from drooping eyelids – the insurer may contribute. This requires assessment and an application before the operation; we support you with the documentation. For initial guidance see pricing and vouchers; a consultation can be arranged through online booking.
Frequently asked questions
What happens at the first consultation?
We begin with your concern and your medical history, then examine the relevant area and discuss the possible techniques and their alternatives. You will learn what is realistically achievable, where the scars will lie, and what healing time to expect. At the end you receive a written cost estimate. No decision is expected on the same day.
Is surgery performed as day surgery or with an overnight stay?
It depends on the procedure. Smaller operations under local anaesthetic are performed as day surgery and you go home the same day. Larger procedures under general anaesthesia may make an overnight stay sensible so that circulation and pain relief are monitored. We agree this in advance so that you can plan care and time off work.
How long will I be unable to work?
As a rough guide: a few days after minor procedures, around seven to ten days after eyelid surgery, and two to three weeks for desk-based work after breast or body procedures – longer for physical work. Sport is usually possible again after four to six weeks. We give you an individual timeframe at the consultation.
Will the scars be visible?
Every incision leaves a scar – the question is where it lies and how it matures. We place incisions so that they disappear into natural folds, the breast crease or the hairline. Fresh scars are initially red and firm and fade over six to twelve months. Consistent scar care and sun protection make a considerable difference.
Will health insurance cover the procedure?
Not where the motivation is purely aesthetic. Where a medical indication exists – back and neck pain caused by very large breasts, lipoedema, pronounced gynaecomastia, or visual field restriction from drooping eyelids – a contribution is possible. This requires a medical assessment and an application for cost approval before the procedure.
Is there a minimum age?
As a rule, procedures are performed once you are of legal age and growth is complete. For minors, surgery is considered only in exceptional cases and with the consent of those holding parental responsibility – protruding ears causing significant distress, for example. There is no fixed upper limit; general health and pre-existing conditions matter, not age.
What are the risks?
Every operation carries general risks: bleeding, infection, wound healing problems, altered sensation around the scar, thrombosis, and the risks of anaesthesia. Procedure-specific points such as asymmetry or capsular contracture with implants are added to these. Smoking markedly increases the risk of wound healing problems, which is why we recommend a break before and after surgery. We explain all of this in detail before you give consent.
How long is the wait for a surgery date?
There are usually several weeks between the first consultation and the procedure. That time is needed for reflection, the pre-operative work-up, the anaesthetic assessment and – where insurance cover is being examined – the insurer’s response. If you have a particular period in mind, arrange the consultation early.
