Surgical Brow Lift in Zurich

When the skin’s elasticity decreases, the brow and with it the upper eyelid area is pushed downwards. The eyelid crease appears smaller. This often mistakenly gives the impression of a drooping eyelid.

Many patients come to us in Zurich for this reason: they want a correction of their drooping eyelids. A precise analysis often reveals a different cause. The method of choice is then a surgical eyebrow lift. This lifts the brow again and reconstructs the original contour of the upper eye area.

The most important facts at a glance

With a surgical eyebrow lift, we restore the youthful proportions of the upper third of the face.

We carry out the treatment on an outpatient basis at the Swiss Derma Clinic. The skin is tightened and the brow repositioned via a small incision near the hairline.

The procedure is similar in effect to a small lift (mini-lift). The brow area is lifted moderately and naturally.

  • Duration: approx. 60-120 minutes
  • Swelling and bruising: approx. 7-14 days
  • socially acceptable usually after 10-14 days
  • Scars usually placed inconspicuously (e.g. in the hairline)
  • Final result visible after several weeks

When a surgical eyebrow lift makes sense

Drooping eyebrows affect the expression of the entire face. Many of our patients complain of a tired or stern look or a misalignment of the eyelid contour.

Treatment can be useful if:

  • the eyebrow has dropped significantly
  • Skin presses on the upper eyelid (impression of a drooping eyelid)
  • the natural eyelid crease is barely visible
  • the brows appear asymmetrical

The consultation reveals a typical situation: patients want an upper eyelid lift. On closer inspection, we discover that the main cause is the sagging brow bone. The brow presses on the eyelid and there appears to be excess skin.

In such cases, a surgical eyebrow lift may be advisable. In certain cases, we achieve the best result with a combination of a brow lift and upper eyelid lift.

The procedure

  1. We make a small incision near the hairline or directly in the area of the eyebrow.
  2. The skin is tightened slightly via this approach. The brow is brought into an anatomically correct position.
  3. The procedure is similar in effect to a mini-lift of the upper third of the face. A natural, subtle rejuvenation is one of the positive side effects.
  4. The brow lift is performed on an outpatient basis. If the upper or lower eyelid is to be corrected at the same time, both can be combined in one session.

Eyebrow lift and eyelid lift in combination

The eye area is a functional unit. The eyebrow, upper eyelid and lower eyelid influence each other.

A lowered brow can create the impression of a drooping eyelid or reinforce an existing drooping eyelid. An upper eyelid lift alone will not achieve the desired effect if the brow position is still low.

In facial plastic surgery, we often choose combinations. Upper eyelid lifting, lower eyelid correction and eyebrow lifting can be combined within one procedure, depending on the situation.

The surgeon

The eyebrow lift at the Swiss Derma Clinic is performed by Dr. med. (I) Nunzioluca Chianese, FMH specialist in plastic surgery with a focus on aesthetic facial surgery and special experience in the eye area.

A heavy gaze does not always have a single cause and this is not always where you first suspect it to be. Whether the eyelid, the eyebrow or both should be treated can only be determined by a careful anatomical examination. This first step is just as important as the procedure itself. FAQ

Augenbrauenlifting Zürich

What is the difference between an eyebrow lift and an upper eyelid lift?

Both procedures affect the same area of the face, but treat different structures.

During an upper eyelid lift, excess skin is removed from the upper eyelid area. An eyebrow lift, on the other hand, raises the position of the eyebrow. This also changes the tension of the skin above the eyelid.

If the brow has drooped, an eyebrow lift can be useful as it corrects the actual cause of the heavy gaze. In some cases, both treatments are combined.

Will visible scars remain after a surgical eyebrow lift?

The incision is made in the direction of the hairline. In this way, scars can be placed inconspicuously.

How visible a scar is later depends primarily on the individual skin condition, wound healing and the appropriate aftercare. In most cases, the scars fade significantly over the course of the first few months. If necessary, additional treatments with radio frequency or laser are possible.

How long do the results of an eyebrow lift last?

In principle, a surgical eyebrow lift permanently changes the position of the brow. However, the natural ageing process continues and the eyebrow will sag slightly over the years as its elasticity decreases. If this is the case, touch-ups are possible.

Most of our patients are satisfied with the result for many years. An adapted lifestyle (not too much direct sunlight, no excessive weight fluctuations) also stabilizes the result.

Can an eyebrow lift also improve functional complaints?

The skin of the upper eyelid may press on the eye. Occasionally a feeling of heaviness or pressure in the eye area is described.

Lifting the brow relieves the skin in the upper eye area. This can also improve the subjective sensation in the eye area.

Our Q&A texts are by no means a substitute for a medical consultation. For an individual and well-founded medical assessment, we recommend a personal consultation at the Swiss Derma Clinic. We are happy to take the time for you!
