Ogee curve

The ogee curve is a term from aesthetic facial analysis. It describes the S‑shaped line that runs, in three-quarter view, from the lower eyelid over the curve of the cheekbone and down into the cheek hollow.

Application

A pronounced, softly sweeping curve is associated with a youthful, fresh midface. With age it flattens as volume is lost and tissue descends. Doctors use the ogee curve as a guide when planning treatments such as cheek augmentation with filler, a thread lift or a midface lift.

Good to know

The curve is not a fixed measurement but a guiding principle, adapted individually to face shape, sex and ethnic background. As with the golden ratio, proportions help with analysis, but a natural result always respects the individual features of the face. An overemphasised cheekbone quickly looks artificial.
