Bunny lines

Bunny lines are fine, diagonal wrinkles on the sides of the upper nasal bridge. They owe their name to the way rabbits wrinkle their noses.

Causes

They are caused by a small muscle on the nose that contracts when laughing, scrunching the nose or squinting. Some people naturally use this muscle more than others. Bunny lines can also become more noticeable after the forehead and frown line have been treated with botulinum toxin, as facial expression shifts to neighbouring muscles.

Symptoms

The lines are mainly visible during movement and may extend towards the inner corners of the eyes. Over time they can also show at rest.

Treatment

The usual treatment is a very small amount of botulinum toxin placed precisely into the nasal muscle. The effect appears after a few days and typically lasts three to four months. It is often combined with treatment of the frown line and crow’s feet to keep expressions balanced. Too high a dose can affect the upper lip.
