Breast reduction (mammary reduction)

In breast reduc­tion, glan­du­lar and fat­ty tis­sue as well as excess skin are remo­ved and the breast is lifted at the same time. The nipp­le-areo­la com­plex is moved upwards while remai­ning atta­ched to its blood supply.

Appli­ca­ti­on

A very lar­ge breast can lead to neck, should­er and back pain, skin inflamm­a­ti­on beneath the breast and groo­ves from bra straps. Along­side the aes­the­tic bene­fit, the pro­ce­du­re the­r­e­fo­re has a clear medi­cal one.

Good to know

Sen­si­ti­vi­ty of the nipp­le may be tem­po­r­a­ri­ly alte­red. Breast­fee­ding is often, but not always, pos­si­ble after the pro­ce­du­re. A sup­port bra is worn for seve­ral weeks.
