Retinoids

Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A. They accelerate the renewal of the epidermis, keep the pores clear and stimulate the formation of collagen in the connective tissue. They are among the best-studied active substances in skin medicine.

Application

They are used for acne, blocked pores, pigment spots and light-induced skin ageing. Prescription products such as tretinoin are stronger than over-the-counter forms such as retinol.

Good to know

Redness, tightness and flaking are common at the start. Application is in the evening and is increased slowly. Sun protection during the day is essential. Retinoids are not permitted during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
