Otoplasty (ear correction)

Otoplasty corrects prominent ears. In medical terms this prominence is called apostasis otum. The cause is usually a missing or insufficiently formed fold in the ear cartilage.

Application

Through an incision behind the ear, the cartilage is weakened and brought into the desired shape with sutures. The scar lies in the fold behind the ear and is barely visible later.

Good to know

The procedure is possible from pre-school age, since ear growth is largely complete by then. A headband is worn at night for a few weeks so that the ears are not bent over.
