Lower eyelid lift

A lower eyelid lift is a surgical procedure on the lower eyelid in which lax skin is tightened and bulging fat is removed or repositioned. It is technically more demanding than upper eyelid surgery.

Application

It is mainly used for pronounced eye bags and loose lower eyelid skin. Depending on the findings, access is through a fine incision just below the lashes or through the inside of the lid (transconjunctival), leaving no visible scar. The fat is often moved into the adjacent tear trough to create a smooth transition to the cheek.

Good to know

Swelling and bruising usually last one to two weeks. Possible risks include a temporarily pulled-down lower lid, dry eyes or asymmetry. Where there is only volume loss without excess skin, fillers may be an alternative, but they cannot permanently correct genuine fat bulges.
