Lip lift (surgical)

A lip lift is a minor surgical procedure that shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip. As a result, the red part of the lip rolls slightly outwards and the upper lip looks fuller and more defined.

Application

With age, the skin above the upper lip lengthens, the lip becomes thinner and less of the teeth shows when smiling. In the most common technique, the bullhorn lift, a narrow strip of skin is removed just beneath the nose. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia. Unlike the lip flip with botulinum toxin, the result is permanent.

Good to know

Swelling settles after about one to two weeks; the fine scar at the base of the nose is red at first and fades over several months. Careful planning is essential, as excessive shortening is very difficult to reverse. Fillers can complement the procedure if additional volume is wanted.
