Lip flip

A lip flip is a treatment in which small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected along the border of the upper lip. This slightly relaxes the ring muscle around the mouth so that the upper lip turns a little outwards. It therefore looks fuller without any volume being added.

Application

A lip flip suits people with a thin upper lip that rolls inwards and almost disappears when they smile, or those with a mild gummy smile. The treatment takes only a few minutes and needs no anaesthetic. The effect appears after a few days and is subtle.

Good to know

Results usually last only two to three months, which is shorter than in other areas of the face. In the first few days, drinking through a straw, whistling or pronouncing certain sounds may feel unusual. Anyone wanting clearly more volume is better served by hyaluronic acid lip filler; the two can be combined. See also gummy smile.
