Hyaluronidase

Hyalu­ro­ni­da­se is an enzy­me that breaks down hyalu­ro­nic acid. In aes­the­tic medi­ci­ne it ser­ves as a means of cor­rec­tion when a hyalu­ro­nic acid fil­ler sits unfa­vour­a­b­ly, crea­tes too much volu­me, or a com­pli­ca­ti­on occurs.

Appli­ca­ti­on

The enzy­me is injec­ted into the affec­ted area and breaks the gel down within hours to days. If a fil­ler cau­ses a blo­cked blood ves­sel, prompt admi­nis­tra­ti­on of hyalu­ro­ni­da­se is the decisi­ve emer­gen­cy measure.

Good to know

Hyalu­ro­ni­da­se acts only on hyalu­ro­nic acid, not on other fil­ling mate­ri­als. Becau­se the body­’s own hyalu­ro­nic acid is bro­ken down too, the area may look slight­ly hol­low for a short time. This evens out again within a few weeks.
