Fruit acids, known technically as alpha hydroxy acids, originally come from fruit and milk. Glycolic acid and mandelic acid are used most frequently. They act superficially and dissolve the bond between dead horny cells.
Application
They are used for blemished skin, blocked pores, uneven complexion and early fine lines. A course of four to six sessions two to four weeks apart is usual, with slowly increasing concentration.
Good to know
After the treatment the skin may be slightly red and flake for a few days. Because fruit acid acts superficially, downtime is short. Sun protection is a prerequisite throughout the whole course.
