Compression garment

A compression garment is a close-fitting medical garment worn after certain procedures. Common types include girdles, bodysuits, shorts and vests that apply targeted pressure to the treated tissue. It is a standard part of aftercare following many body contouring operations.

Application

After liposuction, a tummy tuck or a thigh lift, even pressure helps the skin settle onto the new body contour. It limits swelling and bruising and lowers the risk of fluid collections such as a seroma. Many patients also find that the garment gives a reassuring sense of support when moving.

Good to know

It is usually worn day and night for several weeks; the exact duration is set by the treating doctor. A good fit matters: a garment that is too tight can cause pressure marks and skin irritation, while one that is too loose loses its effect. Having a spare makes washing easier.
