Chemical peel

In a chemical peel, an acid is applied to the skin that dissolves the bonds between the horny cells. The uppermost layer comes away and more even skin emerges beneath it.

Application

Depending on the depth of penetration, peels are classed as superficial, medium-depth or deep. They treat blemished skin, fine lines, pigment spots and uneven skin texture.

Good to know

The deeper the peel, the more marked the result and the longer the healing. After every peel the skin is sensitive to light, and consistent sun protection over several weeks is essential. With darker skin types the choice must be made carefully.
