Carbon laser peel (Hollywood peel)

A carbon laser peel, also known as a Hollywood peel, is a laser treatment in which a thin layer of fine carbon is first applied to the skin. A Q‑switched Nd:YAG laser then heats the particles and blasts them off the skin surface, lifting away dead skin cells and excess sebum with them.

Application

The aim is a smoother, fresher-looking complexion. The treatment is used for oily skin, enlarged pores, blackheads and a dull complexion. The heat delivered to the tissue may also temporarily reduce oil production and stimulate collagen formation. A session takes around half an hour.

Good to know

There is hardly any downtime; mild redness usually settles within a few hours, and make-up can often be worn the same day. The effect is fairly subtle, so several sessions a few weeks apart are commonly planned. Deep scars and pronounced wrinkles cannot be treated this way. Unlike a chemical peel, a carbon laser peel uses no acids.
