Breast augmentation (mammaplasty)

Breast augmentation enlarges the breast, either with implants or with the body’s own fat. Implants today consist predominantly of a silicone shell with cohesive silicone gel.

Application

The implant can be placed above or below the chest muscle. Access is usually via the inframammary fold. In autologous fat transfer, fat is removed by liposuction, processed and introduced, which allows a more moderate enlargement.

Good to know

Implants are not prostheses for life. Check-ups make sense, and over time a replacement may become necessary, for example in the case of capsular contracture. Sport should be avoided for around six weeks.
