Atopic dermatitis (neurodermatitis)

Ato­pic der­ma­ti­tis is a chro­nic inflamm­a­to­ry skin dise­a­se that is main­ly cha­rac­te­ri­zed by seve­re dry­ness and inten­se itching. It often beg­ins in child­hood and can impro­ve or recur over time.

A dis­tur­bed skin bar­ri­er is typi­cal; fla­re-ups can be pro­mo­ted by trig­gers such as stress, infec­tions or aller­gens. The basis of tre­at­ment is con­sis­tent care to sta­bi­li­ze the skin bar­ri­er, sup­ple­men­ted by medi­cal the­ra­pies depen­ding on the severity.
