Sof­wa­ve® is a non-inva­si­ve ultra­sound tech­no­lo­gy for impro­ving wrink­les, skin tex­tu­re and skin firm­ness – with a high­ly focu­sed deli­very of ener­gy into the mid-der­mis. The sys­tem works with par­al­lel ultra­sound beams (SUPERB™), which direct the ther­mal effect in a con­trol­led man­ner to a depth of appro­xi­m­ate­ly 0.5–2.0 mm, cent­red at around 1.5 mm. The aim is to sti­mu­la­te the for­ma­ti­on of new col­la­gen (neo­col­la­ge­ne­sis) wit­hout dama­ging the epi­der­mis. Inte­gra­ted cont­act coo­ling pro­tects the skin sur­face and increa­ses com­fort. In cli­ni­cal pro­to­cols, Sof­wa­ve® is typi­cal­ly used for the face, jawline/neck and brow area; in addi­ti­on, the­re is now FDA cle­arance for the non-inva­si­ve impro­ve­ment of the appearance of skin laxi­ty on the upper arm – of inte­rest to pati­ents who are loo­king for an alter­na­ti­ve to inva­si­ve lif­ting pro­ce­du­res. Tre­at­ments are easy to plan, the­re is litt­le down­ti­me and results deve­lop gra­du­al­ly over a peri­od of weeks. In prac­ti­ce, Sof­wa­ve® fits ide­al­ly into pro­gram­mes aimed at “lif­ting wit­hout a scal­pel” and – depen­ding on the indi­ca­ti­on – can be com­bi­ned with fil­lers, toxins or topi­cal regi­mens. For the pati­ent jour­ney, it is important to set rea­li­stic expec­ta­ti­ons: Sof­wa­ve® impro­ves firm­ness and the appearance of wrink­les, but does not replace sur­gi­cal tigh­tening pro­ce­du­res in cases of pro­no­un­ced laxi­ty. With the right pati­ent sel­ec­tion, the tech­no­lo­gy offers a con­vin­cing balan­ce of effi­ca­cy, safe­ty and comfort.
