Skin longevity

Skin longevity describes an approach that aims to keep the skin healthy and functional over the years, rather than only treating visible signs of ageing once they appear. The term applies the idea of longevity to the skin. The emphasis is on prevention and on preserving structure, barrier function and the capacity to regenerate.

Application

It usually starts with an assessment of skin type, sun damage and lifestyle. On that basis, daily sun protection, a tailored skincare routine with ingredients such as retinoids or antioxidants and, where appropriate, treatments that stimulate the body’s own collagen production may be considered. The aim is to reduce stress factors such as UV radiation, smoking and chronic inflammation.

Good to know

Skin longevity is not a single procedure but a long-term concept. Sun protection and topical retinoids are the best-documented elements. For many newer ingredients and devices, data on long-term effects are still thin, so realistic expectations are important.
