Breast augmentation (mammaplasty)

Breast aug­men­ta­ti­on enlar­ges the breast, eit­her with implants or with the body­’s own fat. Implants today con­sist pre­do­mi­nant­ly of a sili­co­ne shell with cohe­si­ve sili­co­ne gel.

Appli­ca­ti­on

The implant can be pla­ced abo­ve or below the chest mus­cle. Access is usual­ly via the infram­amma­ry fold. In auto­log­ous fat trans­fer, fat is remo­ved by lipo­suc­tion, pro­ces­sed and intro­du­ced, which allows a more mode­ra­te enlargement.

Good to know

Implants are not pro­s­the­ses for life. Check-ups make sen­se, and over time a repla­ce­ment may beco­me neces­sa­ry, for exam­p­le in the case of cap­su­lar con­trac­tu­re. Sport should be avo­ided for around six weeks.
