A bright treatment room, a calm atmosphere and a perfect touch. Dr. Lia Georgouli checks the structure of a patient’s skin. The chin structures are sagging – there is already a slight double chin. The treatment of choice is innovative – a mix of regenerative enzymes. A few minutes later, the actual application begins. Not on the surface, but deep in the tissue: where enzymes actively influence skin regeneration. The procedure is barely noticeable for the patient. The enzymes are injected using tiny needles and only take a few seconds.

The Swiss Derma Clinic as a training center for Swiss doctors

Recombinant Enzymes (product name pbserum) is a new biological treatment approach. Dr. Lia Georgouli was trained as part of an international „train-the-trainer“ event and is expected to conduct the first physician training course in Zurich next year.

Recombinant enzymes: What’s behind them?

Enzymes are biological catalysts. They have long been used in medicine to specifically activate or regulate processes in tissue.

What is special about our method is that the recombinant enzymes used are biotechnologically produced and precisely tailored to various skin problems. Depending on their composition, they can dissolve fat cells (they then act as a fat-removing injection), renew the skin surface or loosen and refine connective tissue if this has hardened due to scars or fibrosis.

„For our patients, this means less fat in the right places, more elasticity, fewer wrinkles and a visible improvement in skin quality. Without surgery, just on a biological basis.“ Dr. Lia Georgouli, Medical Director of the Swiss Derma Clinic

Who is the treatment suitable for?

Biological skin tightening can be useful if the skin loses its elasticity, small fat deposits such as a double chin appear or unevenness such as cellulite or scars disrupt the overall appearance. For:

  • sagging skin on the face, neck or upper arms,
  • Sagging cheeks or double chin,
  • Cellulite and irregular tissue on the stomach or thighs,
  • Scars after surgery or injuries and
  • Skin ageing on hands and décolleté.

Enzymatic therapy does not work on the surface of the skin, but directly in the tissue.

What the enzyme treatment does to the skin:

At the Swiss Derma Clinic, we have various enzyme injectables at our disposal. Each preparation has a different approach. They tighten the skin or make fats „melt“, they smooth wrinkles and scars or strengthen the connective tissue. Enzymes can:

  • activate the cell metabolism,
  • improve blood circulation and oxygen supply,
  • Reduce fat deposits and
  • stimulate the production of collagen and elastin and thus rejuvenate the skin.

Combinations and skin longevity: the holistic treatment

Holistic treatment in terms of skin longevity is one of our strengths. It is the basis for healthy and resilient skin in the long term. Recombinant enzymes fit seamlessly into this philosophy and can be perfectly combined with other methods. We do this to enhance or prolong results. For example:

Sofwave® for ultrasound-based lifting (for face and body)

Genius® for deep-acting radio frequency needling (for body firming)

Cristal Fit® for muscle definition and toning of body parts such as the stomach, thighs or upper arms.

FAQ on enzyme-based treatments

Which skin problems can be treated with enzymes?

Thanks to different enzyme formulas, the treatment can be customized. At the Swiss Derma Clinic in Zurich, we use these for:

  • Sagging skin on the face, neck, décolleté or arms
  • Localized fat deposits on the chin, stomach or thighs
  • Cellulite with irregular skin structure
  • Scars and fibrosis, for example after operations or injuries

How many sessions are necessary?

Initial improvements can often be seen after the second treatment. For lasting results, three to four sessions at intervals of two to three weeks are recommended. The exact frequency depends on the treatment goal, skin condition and tissue type (e.g. scars, cellulite).

Is the treatment painful or associated with downtime?

The use of enzymes is usually well tolerated, even by sensitive skin. A slight burning sensation or redness or a minimal feeling of pressure may occur briefly after the injection. These, if present, usually subside after a few hours. There is usually no downtime.

How does treatment work?

After a brief analysis, we inject the enzyme preparation where it is supposed to work. For example, under the skin on the chin, on the upper arms or in the thighs. A session lasts around 30 minutes.
