Rhinoplasty (nose correction) in Zurich

Harmonious nose shape. Natural proportions. Surgical precision.

A nose that is too large, too small or asymmetrical can be perceived as annoying – and can have a significant impact on self-confidence in everyday life.

Rhinoplasty (surgical nose correction) is an established surgical procedure to permanently change the shape, size and proportions of the nose.

At the Swiss Derma Clinic, rhinoplasty is performed precisely, individually planned and with high aesthetic standards – with the aim of achieving a natural and harmonious result.

When does rhinoplasty make sense?

Nose correction may be appropriate in cases of:

  • nose that is too large or too small
  • dorsal hump or asymmetries
  • wide or disproportionate nasal tip
  • deviated nose
  • functional limitations (e.g. breathing difficulties)
  • psychological distress caused by appearance

The goal is not a "perfect" nose, but a harmonious overall appearance of the face.

Who is a suitable candidate for rhinoplasty?

  • Adults from approximately 18 years of age (fully developed bone structure)
  • Individuals with realistic expectations and a clear treatment goal
  • Patients in good general health

A medical assessment is essential to determine the optimal technique, timing, and goal of the procedure.

The procedure – explained transparently

  • inpatient or outpatient surgical procedure
  • general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation
  • open or closed technique depending on the findings
  • reshaping of cartilage and/or bone
  • duration: approx. 1.5–3 hours

With the closed technique, no visible scarring is expected. With the open technique, the fine scar is typically hidden beneath the nasal tip.

Recovery and downtime

  • nasal splint for approx. 7–10 days
  • swelling and bruising possible
  • socially presentable again generally after 10–14 days
  • sports and physical exertion should be avoided for several weeks
  • final result visible after 6–12 months (swelling subsides gradually)

FAQ

Is rhinoplasty painful?

The procedure is performed under anaesthesia. Post-operatively, only mild pain or a feeling of pressure typically occurs, which can be well managed with medication.

Are scars visible?

With the closed technique, no visible scarring occurs. With the open technique, the fine scar is positioned discreetly beneath the nasal tip.

Is the result permanent?

Yes. The new nose shape is permanently stable once the swelling has fully subsided.

How long until the result is visible?

Initial results are noticeable after a few weeks. However, the final outcome only becomes fully apparent after 6–12 months.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

For purely cosmetic procedures, costs are generally not covered. For functional indications (e.g. breathing obstruction), cost coverage may be possible – this is assessed on an individual basis.
