Anatomical and round breast implants

Breast implants come in two basic shapes: round and anatomical. Round implants are evenly domed, while anatomical implants are teardrop-shaped and fuller at the bottom, resembling the natural shape of the breast.

Application

Round implants tend to emphasise the upper cleavage and can look fuller depending on their size. Because they are symmetrical, rotation within the tissue makes no visible difference. Anatomical implants are mainly considered for slim women with little breast tissue of their own or for conditions such as tuberous breasts, as they create a softer transition.

Good to know

Anatomical implants have a textured surface to keep them from turning. Rotation can still occur and would visibly change the shape of the breast. Which shape suits best depends less on general preference than on breast width, tissue thickness and the chosen implant placement. Where there is very little natural tissue, the differences between the two shapes are often smaller than expected.
