Longevity refers to the field of research and medicine concerned with living a long life in good health. The focus is not on lifespan alone, but on how age-related diseases and loss of function can be delayed. Longevity medicine draws on ageing research, preventive medicine and lifestyle medicine.
Application
In practice, it involves an individual assessment and measures that lower the risk of cardiovascular, metabolic and other age-related conditions: exercise, diet, sleep, not smoking and regular check-ups. The skin is a visible organ on which ageing processes show early, which is where the idea of skin longevity comes from.
Good to know
Many concepts in longevity research, such as measuring biological age or new active substances, are based on laboratory and animal studies. Evidence in humans is still limited for many of the services on offer. The best-supported measures remain lifestyle factors and consistent sun protection.
