Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)

Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the lower abdomen and tightens the abdominal wall. Separated rectus abdominis muscles are frequently brought back together at the same time.

Application

The reason is usually pregnancy or significant weight loss, after which skin remains that no longer retracts. The scar runs horizontally across the lower abdomen and can generally be covered by underwear.

Good to know

The procedure is larger than liposuction and requires general anaesthesia and several days as an inpatient. A compression garment is worn for six weeks, and physical rest during this time is important.
