The diode laser usually works at 755 to 810 nanometres. This wavelength is absorbed well by melanin and is regarded as the standard for permanent hair removal.
Application
The energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft and passed on as heat to the hair root. Modern devices work in a sliding motion with a cooled handpiece, which makes treating large areas such as legs or back more comfortable.
Good to know
The laser only works on hairs in the growth phase. Since only part of the hair is in this phase at any time, six to ten sessions four to eight weeks apart are needed. White, grey and very light hair cannot be treated.
