Acne is more than just blemished skin
Acne occurs when several processes get out of balance. The sebaceous glands produce more oil, the ducts of the skin become keratinized, bacteria multiply and trigger inflammation. This is caused by hormonal fluctuations, environmental influences or psychological factors such as stress. Areas with many sebaceous glands such as the face, back and décolleté are particularly affected.
It is important to note that not all acne is the same. Sometimes the main cause is inflammation, in other cases blocked pores or early scars.
The first step: the dermatological examination
If you are affected, you may have tried various home remedies. Often without lasting success. Acne is multifactorial. And special care must be taken with inflammation. Specialist clarification therefore includes questions such as:
- What type of acne do you have?
- Which stage?
- Is the acne active, fading or already scarred?
- How sensitive is the skin?
- Are there any accompanying redness or pigment changes?
Medical therapy: control inflammation
In the case of active, inflammatory acne, the focus is on rapid healing. Effective approaches include retinoids, antibacterial or anti-inflammatory preparations. In certain cases, systemic therapies (medication) are also used.
The initial aim is to treat the inflammation. Only when the skin is more stable do we turn our attention to regeneration.
Laser therapy and BioBoost for skin regeneration
One focus of the Swiss Derma Clinic is laser-based acne therapy. Lasers influence several processes at once: They have an anti-inflammatory effect, regulate the sebaceous glands and promote scarless healing.
One special method is BioBoost, which supports skin regeneration and long-term skin health(skin longevity). The skin is stimulated to renew itself - with visible effects on the skin structure and subsequent scarring.

Acne scars: treat when the acne has subsided
Once the inflammation has healed, it is not uncommon for scars or an uneven skin texture to remain. A skin appearance that can be improved with procedures such as the fractionated CO₂ laser or the radiofrequency needling (Genius) can improve the appearance. The treatments promote the renewal of the skin's surface, refine pores and stimulate collagen formation. The overall quality of the skin often improves. More about acne and acne scars
Dermato-cosmetic treatments as a stabilizing basis
Medical-cosmetic acne treatments can be an important addition to medical therapy. Individually tailored active ingredients, mild peelings, OxyGeneo or cosmetic ultrasoundhelp to stabilize the skin environment, improve the absorption of active ingredients and prevent relapses. Particularly suitable for mild to moderate forms of acne or in the maintenance phase.
Peelings and mesotherapy
Chemical peels with fruit acids or TCA can visibly improve the skin's texture and provide a soft glow. Also for finer pores.
If acne has subsided, regeneration can also be triggered with mesotherapy. The experience of the practitioner and the intensity of the treatment are decisive here, as not every skin can tolerate every intensity.

Why combinations often make more sense
Acne is influenced by various mechanisms. Combinations often achieve more than a single treatment. Laser, needling, peelings and cosmetic treatments work on different levels of the skin and complement each other.
The aim of the treatment is always to achieve a sustainably stable complexion.
What is realistic and what requires a little patience
Improvements are usually gradual:
- Initial calming and a more even complexion after a few weeks
- Visible scar improvements often only after several sessions
- Consistent care and aftercare are crucial
Important: The earlier acne is treated by a specialist, the lower the risk of permanent scars. Patience and individually tailored treatment are worthwhile - for healthy and stable skin in the long term.
