Androgenetic alopecia (congenital hair loss)

Andro­ge­ne­tic alo­pe­cia is the most com­mon her­edi­ta­ry hair loss in men and women. A hyper­sen­si­ti­vi­ty to dihy­dro­tes­to­ste­ro­ne (DHT) plays a cen­tral role, caus­ing hair fol­lic­les to pro­du­ce finer hair over time. It is often mil­der in women, but can also be distres­sing. Ear­ly cla­ri­fi­ca­ti­on is hel­pful becau­se the­re are effec­ti­ve approa­ches to slo­wing down the pro­gres­si­on and sel­ec­ting sui­ta­ble options.
