Can our skin renew itself on its own? Only through targeted impulses? Many of our patients want a strengthened skin structure, a natural smoothing of their wrinkles and a fresh, shimmering complexion (also known as instant glow ). If possible, without downtime and without surgery. Modern biostimulators make such a treatment – a gradual skin renewal – possible.
Biostimulation means „stimulating the skin’s own processes“. Certain substances can support the skin in its ability to regenerate itself. At the Swiss Derma Clinic, we offer treatments with various biostimulants, from exosomes and polynucleotides to gentle, biostimulating fillers.
What are biostimulants and why do they work differently from traditional fillers?
Classic fillers fill in wrinkles. For example, the so-called marionette lines, which can extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin, or the nasolabial fold. The filling is visible immediately after the injection. Another option is botulinum toxin, for example to smooth frown lines. Biostimulants take a different approach: they stimulate the body’s own production of collagen and elastin, the building blocks that give our skin resilience and elasticity.
The result is not artificial volume, but a rejuvenated, natural skin structure. Wrinkles are also smoothed, but more subtly and with a slight time delay. The skin undergoes a regeneration process and rebuilds itself. The full effect becomes apparent after a few weeks, with increasing firmness over the following months.
Our most effective biostimulants and when we recommend them
Polynucleotides and exosomes
These tiny cell messengers are particularly gentle AND very effective. They stimulate skin renewal, reduce moisture loss and improve the skin’s appearance, even on irritated and sensitive skin. They are always an option when it comes to building up long-term elasticity. Also suitable after aesthetic procedures, laser and needling treatments. Areas of application that we recommend: as part of the skin longevity approach, for fine lines, dry skin, a disturbed skin barrier, early signs of ageing and when freshness and glow are desired.
Calcium hydroxyapatite (for example Radiesse)
If we introduce the active ingredient calcium hydroxyapatite into the deeper layers of the skin, it acts like a stabilizing scaffold. It stimulates the formation of collagen and elastin and also promotes the formation of new blood vessels and a stable, denser skin structure. Products such as Radiesse are a filler and biostimulator in one. They are particularly suitable for slightly sagging skin that has lost contour on the cheeks, chin line, neck and hands. Studies confirm our observations and show a significant increase in skin and subcutaneous thickness and elasticity after just a few weeks.
Biostimulating fillers such as Skinbooster and Profhilo
Skin boosters with liquid hyaluronic acid have less of a collagen-stimulating effect, but they provide intensive moisture and act as a skin-smoothing treatment. The skin structure also improves – making the treatment an excellent first step for skin that is beginning to age and for skin that is dull and prone to wrinkles. With Profhilo(bio-remodeling), gentle sculpting and contour improvements (cheekbone, chin line) are possible when injected into the right areas of the skin. The skin tightening is discreet and at the same time very natural.
Why we value biostimulation and regenerative medicine
From our point of view, biostimulants are a long-term investment in beautiful and healthy skin. A brief insight into our experience:
- The results look natural.
- The skin is built up gradually and sustainably.
- A combination with classic fillers is possible.
- Skin looks younger, feels healthier and more resilient (better hydration, more even texture, subtle smoothing, improved elasticity).
Are you wondering whether biostimulators can also improve your skin? Then make an appointment at the Swiss Derma Clinic in Zurich.
When are biostimulators suitable and when should caution be exercised?
We treat successfully at the Swiss Derma Clinic in Zurich:
- Women and men with early skin ageing, loss of elasticity or initial contour changes (chin line, cheeks)
- Skin that has become dry or thinner
- People who want long-term and natural results
- Wrinkles and sagging skin
- People who want a healthier and finer skin texture
We sometimes advise against treatment with biostimulators. In the case of acute inflammatory skin diseases, very thin skin, if a strong tightening (lifting) is desired or in the case of certain pre-existing conditions. A thorough skin analysis and consultation is therefore important.
What you should know before treatment
Biostimulants do not work immediately: the skin needs time to regenerate. The first effects can be seen after a few weeks, the full effect usually takes several months.
The treatment can be carried out individually or as part of a multi-stage overall concept, combined with laser, radio frequency, needling or individual care programs.
