Treating Marionette Lines in Zurich

Marionette lines, also known as „Merkel folds,“ are wrinkles that extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin, often making the facial expression appear sad or tired. Unjustly so, as marionette lines are part of the natural aging process. Over time, a loss of elasticity and volume occurs, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles. External factors like sun exposure, smoking, or stress can also contribute to the formation of marionette lines.

Injecting Marionette Lines: Our Treatments at Swiss Derma Clinic

  • For treating marionette lines in our Zurich clinic, we use various methods. The most common is the injection of hyaluronic acid, which replenishes lost volume and smooths the skin during treatment. Hyaluronic acid is generally well tolerated. With professional application, you can expect very natural results – without looking artificial or "overfilled".
  • Another method involves injecting Radiesse, which activates collagen production within the tissue. The skin structure becomes stronger and fuller, smoothing out troublesome wrinkles from within. The substance calcium hydroxylapatite has a firmer structure than hyaluronic acid and lasts about 18 months.
  • With polynucleotides (PDRN), we can stimulate skin renewal and naturally smooth wrinkles. However, the effects are not immediate but develop gradually over several weeks.

How Your Treatment Proceeds:

Initially, the treatment area is cleaned and disinfected. Then, our doctors inject the filler material under the wrinkles using thin Japanese needles. This procedure is generally not painful and only takes a few minutes. Post-treatment, slight swelling may occur in the marionette lines area, but this quickly subsides. We recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity and sunlight for a few days.

What are marionette lines and how do they form?

Marionette lines, or Merkel folds, are wrinkles running from the mouth corners to the chin. Depending on skin condition, genetics, or age, they can be more or less pronounced. Aesthetic filler injections are particularly suited for static wrinkles and sunken areas in the lower face.

How does injecting marionette lines work in Zurich?

Injecting marionette lines involves using hyaluronic acid (or another filler) to add volume and smooth out wrinkles. If desired, we can apply a numbing cream beforehand, making the injections almost pain-free. You might feel a slight pinch.

The application takes about 20 to 30 minutes in total. Afterwards, you can immediately leave the Swiss Derma Clinic in Zurich and resume social activities. Typically, no follow-up treatment is needed. Post-injection, slight swelling or redness may occur but can be easily concealed with makeup or powder.

When will the results be visible, and how long do they last?

The results are immediately visible after injecting the marionette lines. The treated area may swell slightly for a few hours post-session. Once this subsides, you can see the outcome.

The duration of the filler effect depends on the injection site and depth, as well as the type of filler used. For example, we have different types of hyaluronic acid preparations that work differently depending on the skin layer. Other filling materials include polynucleotides (biostimulators) or Radiesse.

What alternatives are there to injecting marionette lines?

Besides injections, our Zurich clinic offers other wrinkle treatment methods, like laser (CO2 laser therapy), medical microneedling, PRP lifting, or modern thread lifting. These procedures impact the skin structure and potentially the depth of wrinkles.

However, the immediate effect is not comparable to hyaluronic acid. Therefore, we conduct these treatments additionally if needed to maintain results longer or improve overall skin quality. Before your session, we will thoroughly inform you about the effects, alternatives, and all potential risks and side effects.
