In the elegant premises of the Swiss Derma Clinic, surrounded by state-of-the-art technology and an atmosphere that exudes calm and professionalism, I speak to Kevin Sternberg, MD. He joined the Zurich medical team a few months ago. And with more than six years of experience in energy-based skin tightening without surgery, Mr. Sternberg brings a fascinating perspective on the future of aesthetic medicine. His specialties include treatments with high-intensity ultrasound (Sofwave), the fractionated CO2 laser and radiofrequency microneedling.
Mr. Sternberg, why are you convinced by energy-based skin tightening?
„For me, energy-based skin tightening is the future of aesthetic medicine. Unlike traditional methods, which are often associated with long downtimes and various side effects, this is a very efficient treatment. With minimal to no downtime. The results are very natural and long-lasting, and the procedures can be customized to the needs of each individual patient. This means we can treat scars, stretch marks or wrinkles in the cheek area just as well as irregular, large-pored skin or sagging skin overall.“
You worked in Berlin for a long time. How did this experience shape your perspective?
„Berlin was indeed formative for me. Working in leading practices there and managing large teams in a deputy position gave me a deep insight into the wishes of patients and the possibilities of modern aesthetic medicine. These experiences have shown me how important it is to choose the right methods. We often achieve the best results with combinations such as laser and biostimulators.
Energy-based procedures such as laser or radiofrequency offer enormous benefits. They use heat to stimulate the skin’s own renewal and promote collagen production. This can fundamentally rejuvenate and tighten the skin. And without looking „lifted“ or „injected“.“
Can you tell us more about the specific procedures you use at the Swiss Derma Clinic?
„With pleasure. One of the key procedures is radiofrequency needling. This technique uses microneedles that apply precisely dosed radiofrequency energy directly into the upper and middle layers of the skin, resulting in visible rejuvenation, particularly on the surface. Then there is the CO2 laser, which is particularly effective for pigmentation spots, large-pored skin or scars.
Another modern procedure is Sofwave. This is a high-intensity ultrasound that also reaches deeper layers of the skin and is particularly effective for sagging skin and jowls. The great thing about this treatment is that our patients can immediately resume their normal activities.“
How do you see it: will the demand for these non-surgical beauty treatments increase?
„Absolutely. Demand is constantly growing. Patients are increasingly looking for safe, fast and effective alternatives to surgical procedures. Thanks to the rapid advances in aesthetic medicine, we can offer treatments with the latest and most effective devices at Swiss Derma Clinic. This is exciting for us as users and particularly beneficial for our patients.“
Finally, Mr. Sternberg MD, what motivates you personally in your daily work?
„It gives me the greatest pleasure when I see how much my patients‘ quality of life improves. Even small changes can have a big impact on self-confidence and general well-being. Here at the Swiss Derma Clinic, we strive to provide every patient with the best possible treatment – based on the latest findings and technologies.
My work is my hobby and I do it with passion. And when I’m not in Zurich, I love to travel. To the USA, Asia or across Europe. I get inspired there, also in terms of skin health and aesthetics.“
